Swedish photographer Christian Aslund is riding a small boat along the coast of Spitsbergen, an island in the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard. India will issue tourist visas for Chinese citizens for the first time in five years, allowing nationals from its neighboring country to freely visit each other, marking a significant reset in relations after a deadly border clash sent ties into a deep freeze.

From Thursday, July 24, Chinese citizens can apply for tourist visas to India, the Indian embassy in Beijing said Wednesday.

This 窶徘ositive news窶 is in the 窶彡ommon interests of all parties,窶 China窶冱 foreign spokesperson Guo Jiakun said. 窶廚hina is willing to maintain communication and consultation with India to continuously improve the level of facilitation of personnel exchanges between the two countries.窶

There has been a gradual normalization of ties between India and China in recent months after relations were deeply strained in June 2020, when a brutal hand-to-hand battle in the Galwan Valley left at least 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers dead.

Both nations maintain a heavy military presence along their 2,100-mile (3,379-kilometer) de facto border, known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC) 窶 a boundary that remains undefined and has been a persistent source of friction since their bloody 1962 war.

Two planes nearly collided on the runway in Mexico City on Monday, as an AeroMexico regional jet coming in for landing flew over and touched down in front of a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 jet already beginning to take off.

Delta Flight 590 was starting to roll down the runway at Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juarez with 144 customers and six crew members on board when the pilots saw another plane land directly in front of it, the airline said in a statement.

Flight tracking website Flightradar 24 shows AeroMexico Connect flight 1631, an Embraer 190 regional jet, flew less than 200 feet over the moving Delta plane then landed in front of them on runway 5R.

The pilots stopped the takeoff and returned to the terminal. The plane eventually took off on its flight to Atlanta about three hours late.

Delta said it reported the incident to Mexican aviation authorities, as well as the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board in the United States.

窶廛elta will fully cooperate with authorities as the circumstances around this flight are investigated,窶 the airline said in a statement. 窶弩e appreciate the flight crew窶冱 actions to maintain situational awareness and act quickly 窶 part of Delta窶冱 extensive training.窶

AeroMexico and the Mexican civil aviation authority did not immediately respond to CNN窶冱 request for comment.

Mexico窶冱 aviation safety rating was downgraded by the FAA in May 2021 for non-compliance with minimum international safety standards. Federal authorities said Tuesday that they have indicted the top two leaders of a Mexican drug cartel and are offering up to $8 million rewards for information leading to their capture and conviction.

Johnny Hurtado Olascoaga and Jose Alfredo Hurtado Olascoaga, are accused of participating in a conspiracy to manufacture cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and fentanyl and importing and distributing the drugs in the United States, authorities said during a news conference in Atlanta. The newly unsealed three-count indictment was returned by a grand jury in September.

The two brothers are the leaders of La Nueva Familia Michoacana, a Mexican cartel that was formally designated by the U.S. government in February as a "foreign terrorist organization," authorities said.

The State Department is offering up to $5 million for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Johnny Hurtado Olascoaga and up to $3 million for information about Jose Alfredo Hurtado Olascoaga, who also goes by the name "The Strawberry." Both men are believed to be in Mexico, officials said.

Separately the U.S. Treasury announced new sanctions Wednesday against the two men and well as two other alleged leaders of the cartel, which the U.S. designates as a "foreign terrorist organization."

In addition to drug trafficking, the Familia Michoacana cartel has also engaged in extortions, kidnappings and murders, according to U.S. prosecutors.
